    GLOTECH, Inc. seeks a  Bioinformatics Specialist to join our collaborative team of Biostatisticians, who provide statistical consulting services (a variety of data analysis and statistical programming support services) to our government client, the NIH - National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHHD) - https://www.nichd.nih.gov/about/Pages/index.aspx  - Division of Intramural Population Health Research (DIPHR).

     

    Job Description:

     

    The Bioinformatics Specialist will provide bioinformatic and genetic statistical support to help Researchers, Scientists and other staff, manage, process and analyze human genomic and molecular data. This will include maintaining databases to contain the information and creating or selecting algorithms to process, analyze, visualize and interpret it. Will use data mining techniques, statistical software and programming languages  (e.g., Perl, Python, Java, R, ,UNIX/LINUX batch scripts).  May also use computer programming skills to extend the capabilities of software packages, Web tools, databases, and database queries.

     

    Specifically, the Bioinformatics Specialist will perform the following work responsibilities, on a regular basis:

     

    • Prepare, quality control and analyze different types of high dimensional data sets (human genomics, RNA Sequencing {aka whole transcriptome shotgun sequencing (WTSS)}, Metabolomics, etc.} and present the results to the Client.
    • Process datasets to auto-enter them into databases, then run tests to check the integrity of the data entered.
    • Check the quality of analysis outputs to ensure that the algorithms and methods used are adequate and appropriate.
    • Assist Researchers et al  with analysis requirements.
    • Will be called upon to help prepare reports and scientific journal articles.
    • Keep up with new computational methods and computing technologies in order to be able to provide up to date bioinformatic and genetic statistical support to the Researchers et al.

    Qualifications

    Qualification Requirements:

     

    • The candidate must have a PhD, or a Master’s degree with at least 5 years of directly related professional work experience in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational/Molecular Biology, Genetics/Genomics, Computer Science or related fields.
    • Strong programming skills to manage and analyze high-dimensional research data using high-level programming environments (e.g., Perl, Python, Java, R, UNIX/LINUX batch scripts, etc.). 
    • Proficient programming skills preferably in the application of bioinformatics, software and databases in the area of genomics, metabolomics, and related big-data research fields.
    • The candidate should possess the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, have the flexibility of working both collaboratively and independently, and have excellent communication skills.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with machine learning is a plus.
